Velocity West LA: Mental Conditioning

The difference between success and failure, making a team or not in athletics are often decided by the narrowest of margins. Often it is that individual’s ability to be mentally tough at crucial moments in a game that will make that critical difference. Mental strength is a skill that is learned through mental conditioning.

Mental Conditioning- is a proactive mental training approach towards competition that an athlete under takes en route to attaining mental talent. It is geared towards helping an athlete identify and strengthen his or her blind spots as athletes and competitors. It is a process that leads an individual to a personal accountability and a better understanding that their own success depends greatly upon what happens in their mind. Among the areas that are worked on in mental conditioning include-

* Confidence- where we find it.

* Goal setting- process goals & outcome goals.

* Controllables- a better understanding of what we control and what we don’t control on the athletic field.

* Preparation- ways in which we show up to practice and competitions, warm up (mental & physical), diet, fitness, etc.

* Sport specific IQ & identifying mental blind spots

* Pressure & Adversity- ways in which we manage these.
