The world of youth sports has advanced dramatically in the last ten years.  Today’s young athletes have specialized athletic training facilities at their disposal; a service that used to be exclusive to professional athletes.  These facilities can be extremely beneficial to the development of young athletes that no longer participate in developmentally specific physical education.  The key to taking advantage of this new opportunity is identifying which facilities can provide the injury prevention and improvement that young athletes need.  Here are a few tips that will help you make an educated decision when choosing a facility:

Numerous studies suggest that 1 in 100 high school female athletes will suffer an ACL injury.  The number dramatically increases to 1 in every 10 collegiate female players.  It is a safe bet that the majority of teen soccer players have witnessed an ACL injury and seen first hand the devastation.  Because 70% of all ACL injuries involve no contact, the odds are you’ve watched a teammate simply plant their foot and then collapse in pain.  In the absence of a definitive cause for ACL injuries, doctors have identified a number of risk factors, some of which can be significantly reduced.  Now more than ever, it is important for parents and athletes to take ownership of their own health and safety. This article is intended to empower each and every athlete by providing information on how ACL injuries happen and how they can be avoided.
