Sophomore Nathaniel Ramirez perfected his way to being Heartland Conference pitcher of the week.
If there was any suspense at all it didn’t linger as Incarnate Word’s Nathaniel Ramirez has been named Heartland Conference pitcher of the week.
The Cardinals and Ramirez went off to Missouri to play a conference set against Lincoln. UIW ended up winning all four games.
It was in game one on Saturday that Ramirez slammed the door on any other pitcher of the week contenders. He threw a perfect game at the Blue Tigers and Incarnate Word won 4-0.
His outing was not only a no-hitter it was perfect as no Lincoln batter reached first base. He got 14 outs on ground balls, three more on popups and three on fly balls to the outfield. The other out among the 21 recorded was a strikeout. In fact, it was the fifth frame before any Lincoln player got the ball out of the infield.
Ramirez’ gem was just the fourth no-hitter in Incarnate Word’s 21 years of baseball history.
