Once again the team from Velocity Sports Performance competed in the Daniel Island Park Day Corporate Charity Challenge.

This year the theme of the Daniel Island Park Day was “Pirates.” The corporate charity challenge consisted of seven different “pirate-themed” events.   Velocity Sports Performance won the charity challenge for the second year in a row.

The Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry (DSAL) was the beneficiary of the $5000 purse given to the wining team.  Past DSAL president, Chad Vail, stated that not only does Velocity Sports Performance improve the overall athleticism of athletes of all ages, but the coaches at Velocity Sports Performance are incredible athletes and very generous with their time.  The Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry (DSAL) is a non-profit organization serving eastern South Carolina, whose purpose is to promote an environment which fosters the growth and development of people with Down syndrome to enable them to achieve their full potential.

PRESS RELEASE

Free one-day event.  Bringing the best of the best from the Lowcountry.  Velocity Sports Performance will host the first ever Champion’s Training Academy for Lowcountry High School Varsity Basketball Teams

How do our top basketball stars compare to others in the nation?  On Saturday 8 November, we will discover who can perform like champions.  Velocity Sports Performance invites teams from the Lowcountry to participate in a SPARQ Testing Clinic that assesses Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction, and Quickness.

SPARQ Testing gives players the opportunity to see how their performance compares to other top players in the country.  We are hosting this free clinic so that coaches can give their players this unique opportunity.

When players learn how to use the proper mechanics behind speed and movement, their athletic performance increases.  For example, Dirk DeWitt, owner of Velocity says, “We had been coaching a basketball player at Velocity for only two months.  His vertical jump improved two inches in his first month.”  DeWitt explains, “He was using poor jumping mechanics, and our coaches made the corrections and educated this athlete on proper form…Two months later, after consistent training here at our Center, he made another three-inch gain.  That’s five inches in three months.  We are proud of his effort and our program.”

The SPARQ Testing Clinic will be conducted under the leadership of Coach Allan Johnson, the Sports Performance Director at Velocity.  Named National Strength Coach of the Year, Coach Johnson has sent 28 players to the NBA/WNBA.  His extensive career covers all sports and levels from the little league dreamer to the professional Hall of Famer.

The agenda in brief:  the following teams have been invited to attend the Academy:
Bishop England, First Baptist, Coastal Christian Academy, Northwood Academy, Porter-Gaud, Pinewood Preparatory, Burke High, North Charleston High, Summerville High, James Island Charter, Hanahan High, West Ashley High, Charleston Collegiate, and Fort Dorchester.  Please contact your area school to see what time they will be attending.  Teams come in for two-hour blocks.  Please note that the schools will not be competing in any way.

Velocity Sports Performance offers scientifically designed programs, taught by highly degreed and certified coaches, to athletes age eight through adult. We are devoted to training athletes in every sport, of all ages and skill levels and we will maximize each athlete’s performance by focusing on speed, agility, mobility, flexibility, and energy systems, while reducing the risk of sports-related injuries.

Notes to Media:  You will have the opportunity for photos and interviews with players, coaches, and the Velocity Sports Performance Staff.

REPLAY, Fueled by Gatorade(R) Returns for Season Two By Tradingmarkets.com
February 26, 2010
Today, The Gatorade Company and FOX Sports Net announce the second season of the successful, original program, REPLAY the Series, Fueled by Gatorade, which re-stages classic games between some of the nation's biggest high school sports rivalries. In its second season, REPLAY will reunite two high school hockey powerhouses from Detroit - the Trenton Trojans and the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks - who were unable to finish their second match up of the 1999 season after a life threatening injury forced an early end to the game with the score tied 4-4.

"Hockey passion runs deep in Detroit, and is felt throughout the community," said Brendan Shanahan, NHL Vice-President and former Detroit Red Wings forward. "The NHL is thrilled Gatorade is giving the original players of these two teams a second chance to settle their score in front of all their friends and family."

To get ready for their once-in-a-lifetime rematch, the Trenton and DCC players will take part in a customized 8-week training and nutrition program developed by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) and implemented with the help of professionals from Velocity Sports Performance. GSSI has worked with elite and professional athletes for more than 25 years and will help the Trenton and DCC squads understand their individual fueling needs as athletes before, during and after their on- and off-ice training sessions.

"We are looking forward to working with these athletes to prove once you're an athlete, you're always an athlete," said Sarah Robb O'Hagan, chief marketing officer of Gatorade. "It's an honor to be able to prepare these teams to come together in the spirit of sport, passion and good natured rivalry as they compete for their schools one last time."

The REPLAY game is tentatively scheduled to take place in early May and a documentary produced by FOX Sports Net about the REPLAY athletes' journey will air nationwide in June.

"This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Gatorade on a very creative and home grown project," said Read Jackson, FSN's senior vice president of production and executive producer of REPLAY. "The tone of the REPLAY documentary series provides a trip down memory lane as viewers get to vicariously re-live their high school sports experience, whether they played on a team or not."

As the Trenton and DCC players prepare for their game, REPLAY fans can follow their journey by visiting www.replaytheseries.com, the official home of REPLAY. Visitors to the site can also check out the first season of REPLAY that featured one of the nation's biggest high school football rivalries between the Easton Area Red Rovers and the Phillipsburg Stateliners.

REPLAY, a series of sports documentaries focusing on rematches between great rivalries, is based on an original concept from the creative teams at Gatorade and TBWAChiatDay Los Angeles.

Velocity Sports Performance holds first volleyball combine By Neill Kirkpatrick
August 21, 2008
Mt. Pleasant – The first low country volleyball combine was held at the Velocity Sports Performance center on Saturday the 16th and while the turnout was small coaches, players and Velocity Sports viewed the day as a success.
Three of the top volleyball programs from the area were in attendance in SCISA AAA champs the Ashley Hall Panthers, AAAA state runner-up the Wando Warriors and SCISA semi-finalist the Porter-Gaud Cyclones.
Skip ReVille of Velocity Sports on what inspired Velocity Sports to hold the event, “I think the need to highlight volleyball here in the low country. You have your flag ship programs at the high school level and the teams that are here have won several state championships. These girls are also involved in club volleyball so they put a lot of time and effort into becoming top-level players…We met with Allen Johnson our sports performance director, he has done plenty of instructional combines like this before and we met with coach Alexis Glover of Wando to determine what type of tests we needed and Nike has the SPARQ testing which we followed.”
“We definitely want to continue to hold this type of combine and we hope to do this multiple times throughout the year, that way we can chart the progress the girls have made and bring more teams in to participate and get this testing into a yearly event for volleyball,” said ReVille.
Coach Glover on the event, “I think it was a great day for volleyball. In my 28 years it is the first media and testing day I have been involved in. Giving our sport a little publicity, saying we are a sport and we are in season and we have some great athletes. I am really excited today. I have girls in my program that come to Velocity and I have seen their improvement. I hope that this can be an annual thing and that more teams will be able participate in this type of combine in the future because it is information that the colleges will want.”
Coach Heidtke of Porter-Gaud, “I think it is a great type of thing trying to get the media involved and in testing the girls so we can see how our girls performed in volleyball type tests. It is a good thing for the community to get excited about volleyball.”
Coach Slay of Ashley Hall, “I have been wanting to come to Velocity Sports to see the facility. I loved the testing, it allows you to see where your athletes are currently and it gives you a lot of information to work and go over. Maybe it will be something that all the teams look at in the pre season. The testing confirmed that the program that we are doing at Ashley Hall is touching on the strong points that Velocity Sports say’s are necessary to become the best athletes.”
The goal of Velocity Sports is to let people know that Velocity can help improve performance of all athletes and that is what they are here to do in the community.
Velocity sports has plans to hold another volleyball testing day in December but be on the look out for other sports testing days at Velocity Sports Performance, next up is Basketball.
Velocity Sports Performance gets players up to par By Mike Santillo
August 19, 2008
No one denies the talent level of high school volleyball teams in the Lowcountry. Nonetheless, volleyball has gone somewhat under the radar as of late. The staff at Velocity Sports Performance in Mount Pleasant wanted to change that. So, that’s what they did.

Velocity Sports Performance is proud to be the Official Performance Training Provider for the athletes of Gatorade® REPLAY™. In 2009, Gatorade arranged a rematch between archrivals Easton Area High School and Phillipsburg High School 15 years after a game that ended in a 7-7 tie. Velocity trained the 34 year old athletes before they replayed the biggest game of their lives. The results were remarkable, and we’re not just talking about the score….
